The Healthcare Champion the Coachella and Imperial Valleys Need in Sacramento
Meet Dr. Ida Obeso-Martinez:
Dr. Ida Obeso-Martinez is a local Mayor, lifelong resident, and a healthcare provider who has spent more than 20 years caring for local families as an emergency room, intensive care, and family nurse practitioner. A working mom and first-generation college graduate with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice, she has seen first-hand the struggles and challenges facing everyday families in our district. In the Assembly, Ida will work to lower the cost of living, improve public safety, strengthen local schools, and expand access to quality, affordable healthcare that helps keep our families healthy and safe.
Ida was born and raised in the Imperial Valley and grew up in a union household, where she saw how fair wages and worker protections give families dignity and stability. She and her husband chose to raise their family here in District 36. In 2022, she ran a grassroots campaign for the Imperial City Council, finishing second in a field of six candidates, and she now serves as Mayor of the City of Imperial. Alongside her clinical work, she has published research in medical journals and served on boards that support health education, civic engagement, and opportunities for women and families.
Backed by nurses, firefighters, Congressman Raul Ruiz, and other trusted local leaders, Ida has earned a reputation for bringing people together to deliver results. She has helped secure funding for local infrastructure and economic development and will continue fighting to bring new jobs, investment, and opportunities to our community.
As a local Mayor and a lifelong resident of the district, Ida understands the affordability challenges in our district and will use her proven record of delivering results to uplift her community. She has worked across party lines to secure funding for critical local infrastructure, to improve public safety, and to expand parks. She'll bring that same commonsense leadership to Sacramento to lower the cost of living, strengthen local schools, and ensure our communities always have a strong voice representing them.
